Key Differences

The P100-O and P101-O models share many features but have specific differences that cater to distinct application needs. Here’s an in-depth look at the critical differences between these two Industrial Programmable Syringe Pumps models:

Syringe Option and Volume

  • P100-O: Designed for smaller volume applications, the P100-O supports syringe sizes ranging from 50 µL to 1,000 µL. This range is ideal for precise dispensing in applications that require low-volume liquid handling, such as analytical testing and laboratory automation.
  • P101-O: This model is tailored for higher volume dispensing, accommodating syringes of 2.5 mL and 5 mL. It’s best suited for industrial-scale processes or any applications that demand larger fluid volumes and greater throughput.

Valve Configuration

  • P100-O: The P100-O offers various valve configurations, with options for 6, 8, 10, or 12 ports. These configurations include ultra-low carryover valves, which minimize cross-contamination and ensure high-precision dispensing across multiple channels.
  • P101-O: For the P101-O, the standard configuration is a 12-port low carryover valve. Although this is the default, alternative configurations may be available upon request to meet your needs. This model’s valve setup provides efficient management of higher volume liquid transfers with minimal carryover.

Internal Volume

  • P100-O: Featuring an internal volume range of 3.6 to 14.9 µL, the P100-O is engineered for precision and reduced sample waste. The lower internal volume is ideal for sensitive applications where sample conservation is critical.
  • P101-O: With a larger internal volume of 15.4 µL, the P101-O can handle greater liquid capacities, making it suitable for applications where high sample throughput is required.

Carryover

  • P100-O: The ultra-low carryover volume, ranging from 1.5 to 7.8 µL, makes the P100-O model preferable for tasks that require minimal cross-contamination between samples. This feature is particularly beneficial in analytical workflows where even minor carryover can impact results.
  • P101-O: Carryover volume in the P101-O is higher than the P100-O at 13.6 µL. While slightly more carryover is present due to its larger capacity, it remains a reliable choice for applications where carryover sensitivity is less critical but volume capacity is a priority.

Dimensions

  • P100-O: Compact and lightweight, the P100-O measures 199.7 x 126.3 x 50.5 mm and weighs 1.5 kg. Its smaller footprint is ideal for setups where space is limited, such as lab benches and confined automation systems.
  • P101-O: With a slightly larger build of 211.84 x 136.62 x 49.57 mm and a weight of 1.6 kg, the P101-O can accommodate higher volume syringes, offering more robust handling for industrial and high-throughput applications.

Applications

  • P100-O: This model is optimal for applications requiring ultra-low carryover and precision in small volume dispensing. It’s commonly used in laboratory settings, such as biochemical assays, analytical instrumentation, and R&D environments.
  • P101-O: The P101-O excels in industrial applications where larger volumes and high throughput are necessary. This makes it ideal for production environments, quality control processes, and applications where fluid volumes exceed the typical capacities handled by smaller syringe options.

From P100-O to P101-O

If you currently own an SPM P100-O but require higher syringe capacity for your application, you can upgrade your unit to a P101-O. This process involves sending your SPM P100-O to AMF, where our technicians will make the necessary adjustments to accommodate the larger syringe sizes.

Key modifications include reworking the valve to ensure compatibility with the 2.5 mL and 5 mL syringe options, as well as any adjustments in the module’s dimensions and internal structure to support the enhanced volume capacity. This upgrade is available at a cost and will require time for reconfiguration, but it is a feasible option for users looking to expand the functionality of their existing device without purchasing a new unit.

From P101-O to P100-O

Similarly, it’s possible to convert an SPM P101-O to a P100-O if you find that your application requires smaller syringe sizes and lower carryover. This conversion also requires sending the unit back to AMF for adjustments. The process will involve reconfiguring the valve to support the smaller syringes (ranging from 50 µL to 1 mL) and resizing internal components as necessary to ensure compatibility and optimized performance for lower volume dispensing.

As with the P100-O to P101-O transformation, this conversion is offered at a cost and will involve some processing time. Please reach out to AMF’s support team to discuss specific requirements and arrange for the modification services.
